ABOUT
What is Raise The Barre?
Raise The Barre is a 60 minute total body workout that shares its DNA with the resistance training found in classical ballet. Barre strips back the most effective elements to their basic mechanics. The Barre uses short intense targeted movements to push your muscles into a fast burn before lengthening and stretching them out again – you’ll see and feel the results fast: A toned, lean strong body of a dancer without the dance.

Meet The Team
Ayla Hartman
Instructor
Originally from Newcastle, Ayla has spent most of her working life strutting catwalks as a fashion model.
During those years of stilettos and travelling, she desperately searched for and tried almost every exercise and fitness fad out there.
While trying to find a workout that would both help her maintain her figure and one that would fit in and around her busy schedule, she was introduced to the Barre method in 2009 and never looked back.
Ayla instantly fell in love with the Lotte Burke inspired regime that shares it’s DNA with classical ballet and dance. She loved it so much that when she moved to the South East with her husband, she decided to hang up the stilettos and swap the wine bar for the Barre instead!
She trained as a Barre instructor last year and has now opened West Sussex’s first ever dedicated Barre-Studio, offering clients the strong, lean and flexible body of a dancer without the dance moves.

FAQs
Regime
Open Barre
Open Barre is open to people of all levels of experience, ability and fitness. Why not come on in and find out what the fuss is all about.
This 60 minute class will introduce you to the regime; it will focus on your form and having you doing plies and ballet stretches whilst always working your core stability.
First Barre
First Barre is the perfect class for those who want to refresh and perfect those basic barre movements, positions and mechanics of the regime. Here you will be encouraged to work to your maximum whilst still maintaining excellent form throughout the class.
First Barre packs a little extra punch to Open Barre and is your next step through THE BARRE programme.

What Should I Wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable exercising in. There is some floor work so we recommend that you steer clear of loose fitting shorts! Barre classes are done in bare feet; your instructor will show you where you can leave your belongings.
What Should I Bring?
Just yourself and a positive attitude! We provide all the equipment you need for your class, including free water.
Should I Arrive A Little Early Before My First Class?
If it’s your very first class then - yes! We recommend you arrive 10-15 minutes before so that we can go through your health and fitness needs and show you around the studio.
What If I’m Not A Teeny-Tiny-Ballerina?
Don’t worry - neither are we! Barre is not a dance class so there are no dance moves or complicated routines to learn! Your instructor will participate in the whole class and take you through the full hour.
Can I Take A Barre Class While Pregnant?
Yes you can - we have a specifically designed natal barre programme for both mums to be and new mums. However, everyones pregnancy is different so it’s a good idea to consult your GP before taking a class.
Do I Need To Pay For Membership?
Not at all - we are not a gym or a dance school. We are a fitness studio and you simply pay as you train. You can pay by the class, pay for blocks of classes, or buy an unlimited class monthly pass.
Do We Have Free Parking?
Yes, indeed we do! There are car parking spaces behind the studio. Mind the wall as you go round the corner.
Does Barre Have Any Age Restrictions?
We’re afraid so. Due to the nature of the regime, Barre is open to anyone over the age of 16.
Where Exactly Is Raise The Barre Hassocks?
As you travel away from Hassocks train station towards Hassocks high-street, we are on the right at the first mini roundabout, above ‘Profiles Hair and Beauty’, in the building which use to be called ‘Curves’.
How Can I Pay For My Barre Class?
Whatever’s easiest for you! Book online with our online system, then pay by cash or card on the day. To book a class click here:
